Program Notes

The LFCO celebrates the tales of Heroes as told by Beethoven and Brahms. The Overture to Egmont was written to accompany Goethe’s play by the same name and depicts the flemish Count Egmont and his fights for liberty against the despotic Duke of Alba. From the soloists first notes through to the final chords, the Violin Concerto by Brahms is nothing if not heroic and will be performed by John Lee from Vernon Hills High School.  Beethoven’s famous Eroica (Heroic) Symphony, originally inspired by Napoleon Bonaparte, rounds out our program.
